SPLITBOARD TOURING ITALY

The Ortler Splitboard Tour – The Alps

South Tyrol, Italy – 8 days

The Ortler splitboard tour is for snowboarding, period. The emphasis on this loop trip, also known as the Ortler circuit, is to find as many great snowboard descents and splitboard mountaineering objectives as possible. Comfortable Italian mountain huts with private rooms and showers along with great food add to the experience. The splitboard mountaineering terrain on the Ortler split tour is simply amazing. Come join SGI owner Eric Layton and IFMGA/UIAGM certifed ski mountaineering guide, Dave Miller, on this incredible splitboard tour.

The Ortler split tour has a vast amount of amazing snowboard terrain and the emphasis is on getting in as many great descents as possible. The Ortler split tour, also known as the Ortler ski circuit, hops from hut to hut in a big arc and incorporates layover days wherever the best skiing is to be found. This split tour is for snowboarding rather than travel from point A to point B like other Alps ski tours. Flexibility is built into the itinerary and the days a little less hectic.

Located in the Italian region of the South Tyrol, the snow conditions tend to usually be a little better in the Ortler region than whatever is found further West in the Alps. The Ortler skiing region is culturally split with some valleys speaking mainly German and others mostly Italian.

We splitboard tour in a large semi-loop out of the ski resort area of Sulden staying one night at the Marteller Hut, two nights at the Brenca Hut and two nights at the Pizzini Hut. Each hut we stay at provides an immense amount of splitboarding terrain. The available peaks for descents are huge with notable splitboard mountaineering objectives being Cevedale, Tressero and The Gran Zebru among many others. The splitboard terrain is very diverse and there’s something for experienced backcountry snowboarders of all abilities.

After a day riding the peaks and glaciers of the Ortler split tour, we spend the nights in comfortable Italian alpine ski huts. These ski huts are some of the finest in Europe with an option for private rooms (some with private showers) in some huts fine Italian food, Cappuccino and wine lists. Not to mention a relaxed atmosphere with skiers from around the world.

SGI technical director and IFMGA ski guide Dave Miller along with Owner and AMGA certified splitboard guide Eric Layton personally lead the Ortler splitboard tour and it is one of their favorites.

 Skill & Experience Level:
